2007 Discovering Leadership at Sea

A Workshop for Emerging Leaders

June 22 (4:30 pm) - 24 (1:00 pm)

The Nova Scotia Sea School invites leaders under the age of 30 on a thought-provoking, challenging sailing experience that explores leadership themes such as the following:

  • Out of intense complexities, intense simplicities arise
  • The container principle: openness and boundary
  • When to direct, when to facilitate, when to follow
  • Ritual, form, and celebration
  • Letting the environment do the work
  • The power of silence: seeing yourself and others clearly
  • Dealing with hope and doubt

This program will provide you with new tools and skills to foster insight, compassion and humour in yourself and those you work with. You will gain new ideas on how to steer a chaotic situation to a successful resolution, and learn more about your own strengths as a leader and role model.

This workshop consists of an overnight coastal expedition in one of the Nova Scotia Sea School's 30' pulling boats, with on-shore discussions at start and finish. The workshop will be run in the Sea School's challenging wilderness style, so expect to push your limits and be exposed to whatever the sea has to dish out. No prior sailing experience is necessary.
