Sustaining & Celebrating Our Communities, Ourselves
February 19-20, 9:00am-6:00pm
Terence Bay Fire Hall, Nova Scotia
How do we bring new life to our work and the communities we serve? How do we sustain our own energy over time? How do we connect the key players within our communities? How do we craft partnerships and networks that hold? Many of us have been exploring these questions as we try new, more nourishing, sustainable, and effective approaches to engaging within and across communities.
In Nova Scotia we are building on decades of community action, innovation, and deep-rooted values. Here, as everywhere, the internal and external challenges facing our communities and institutions are intensifying. What has worked before may no longer be sufficient. Finding out what does work and strengthening our peer networks is more important than ever before.
In this workshop we will draw on practices and new learning from ABCD, the Shambhala Institute, the Art of Hosting, Envision Halifax, and others who are experimenting with new tools and ways of organizing. We will also take time for reflection, meditation, story-telling, and forming strategic relationships around our current practical questions and challenges. This gathering is for anyone who has a passion for community, from within or without institutions.
Mike Green has been working with a strength-based approach to community development throughout North America and beyond for the past 20 years. The ABCD framework has been integrated into Nova Scotian community-building over the past ten years. Last June Mike led a module at the Shambhala Institute's Authentic Leadership program, and this experience opened a new frontier of learning for him and the ABCD work. Mike is now returning to Nova Scotia to further engage with the rich field of community work in the province and the innovative thinking and practices emerging from the Shambhala Institute. We look forward to this opportunity for new learning, connection, and celebration. Click here for information about Mike's newly published book.
