2007 Transition Retreat with Julio Olalla & Arawana HayashiLeading in ComplexityMarch 18-20, 2007As leaders we develop a unique way of observing our organization and its relationship to the world. Over time this strength can become a weakness, if we and our organizations become blind to other ways of seeing and taking action. Dealing with complexity requires a way of leading that illuminates these blind spots and keeps us continually responsive to new and ongoing challenges. At this time in history, there is a great urgency for each one of us to boldly lead and to develop the competencies needed to manage complexity with strategic flexibility and courage. This retreat offers leaders a rare opportunity to learn with peers in an environment that both models and builds these capacities. Leaders who complete this workshop will have a greater ability to
Schedule: The retreat begins with reception and dinner on Wednesday, October 10, starting at 5:30 pm, and ends by 3:00 on Friday, October 12. Venue: The Kingbridge Centre, King City, north of Toronto, Ontario Fee: $1750 includes meals and accommodations. "The insight I gained through Julio's session still resonates for me - and informs my ongoing personal and professional development. I highly recommend Julio's work; I regard him as a teacher of the highest caliber." "Arawana's teaching alters the way you see your interaction with others and the world. By coaching you to be grounded in your body and then to see your words and actions as a dance with those around you, she shows you how you might learn to act in ways that the whole situation calls for. Instead of seeing my needs as competing with those of others, I got a new glimpse of the interdependence of all the dancers." "The work of Julio and the Newfield Network is unlike any I've experienced. The learning context they create provides a safe and rich opportunity for participants to step into a much larger story and bolder actions than they would on their own." "Julio Olalla's work has the great scope and multidisciplinary nature required to move us beyond our current leadership practices." About the Facilitators and Sponsoring PartnersJulio Olalla is an internationally renowned speaker, educator, and master executive coach. He is founder and president of Newfield Network, an international education and consulting company. Newfield offers powerful, new integrative learning processes to individuals and organizations in the U.S., Latin America, and Europe that better prepare leaders and managers to deal with the increasing complexity we all face at this time in the world. Julio is a master at generating learning environments that establish the trust, safety, respect and well-being that accelerate learning potential. He has trained over 50,000 individuals worldwide and worked with more than 300 organizations internationally to develop increased integration, productivity, strength, and well-being of individuals, teams and leaders. His message inspires audiences to re-evaluate not only the content of what they are thinking, but also their approach to learning. They often discover it's essential to redefine both what it means "to know" and "to learn" if they are to address the uniquely complex concerns of the emerging global community. Arawana Hayashi is a dancer and choreographer, with roots in Asian and Western arts. Arawana has been on the faculty of the Shambhala Institute for Authentic Leadership since its inception. She also teaches extensively within the international network of Shambhala meditation centres and is leading the development of Embodied Presence Practice in collaboration with C. Otto Scharmer (MIT) at the Presencing Institute. The Shambhala Institute, the organizing sponsor of this workshop, is known for its transformative leadership programs, change methodologies, and dialogues. The Institute's Authentic Leadership programs, which take place annually in Nova Scotia, Canada, convene people, organizations and initiatives working at the innovative edge of organizational and social change. Context Management Consulting, the regional sponsor of this workshop, is committed to growing and sustaining transformative leadership networks in Central Canada. Context's generative change initiatives guide individuals in re-claiming essential human capacities that are concealed in large corporations. They support executive leaders and their teams in turning toward the future with strengthened inspiration, integration, and business results. Context's programs have been featured by the Atlanta-based Information Management Forum, used by a consortium of international aerospace agencies, and recognized for their results with Action Learning in The Change Handbook (Berrett-Koehler, 2006).
